Tiverton’s Night Market (Electric Nights Streetfood) returns Saturday 5 May with a masquerade theme. The multi award-winning event run at Tiverton Pannier Market hosts a wealth of streetfood from across the South West as well as live music and entertainment for the whole family.
May’s event offers a range of culinary delights for people to try from kebabs, Caribbean food, BBQ grill, German cuisine, crêpes, chicken rotisserie and much more! New to the events this year is a prosecco bar plus a dedicated vegetarian / vegan stall. There will also be a selection of artisan goods stalls including locally produced handcrafted goods and food to take away.
Headlining May’s event is Tiverton band Orange Flag. They will be supported by TCR Radio who are compèring the event in addition to providing music plus there is Morris dancing from Bradninch Miller Morris Dancers. Marvellous Eventures are running a FREE mask-making stall for children, plus there is a bouncy castle, face-painting and other craft-based activities for children to enjoy.
Sadly, the Electric Nights team lost a valuable member of their team with the recent passing of Cllr Clarissa Slade. Clarissa supported each event, volunteering and helping out with the event activities on the night. She is greatly missed and as such, the team are holding a tribute to her at the May event.
Electric Nights is proud to announce that it is going zero to landfill for 2018. The majority of traders already offer biodegradable options for drinking vessels, serving dishes and cutlery. However, this year there will be designated bins presented around the site for plastic beakers, plastic bottles and cardboard coffee cups so that these can be processed and fully recycled using UK processors. Any other general waste generated by the event will be processed via the incinerator, providing electricity to local homes.
Event Coordinator, Zoë Lentell, said “we’re looking forward to another summer packed with exciting events. Themes this year include ‘May Masquerade, Magical Mid-Summer Blues, Vintage Summer, Pirates and Rogues, Super Sixties and offer a variety of entertainment and music. In addition to returning foodie favourites, we have a selection of new traders joining us this year including an Indonesian stall in July and August plus we have Tiverton’s Waffles Taste Fantastic attending in June. In response to customer feedback, we have expanded the event to include artisan goods and invite local crafters to take-up the offer of a stall”.
Town Centre and Market Manager, Alan Ottey, said “The Night Market is a great event and is well supported by the businesses in the town as I often get asked ‘when is the next one?’. Traders from our changing day market are now opening for the evening as well. This is all good for the town and shows how the local community and visitors embrace the chance of supporting a local event. It is a good example of businesses all working together”.
The events are free entry and provide a great feel-good night out for all in the centre of Tiverton. They are organised by Mid Devon District Council in conjunction with TCR Radio.
