Light-up Tiverton: Santa Spectacular

On Saturday 2 December, Tiverton will be turning on its famous ‘green pants’ Christmas lights for the last time as part of the ‘Light-up Tiverton’ event.  This event kick starts Tiverton’s Christmas Festival (which takes place throughout December with various events in the town).

The evening will commence with live music from Tiverton Community Radio at 5:00pm.  A host of Tiverton’s school children (primary and secondary) will lead a lantern procession throughout the Town starting from Bridge Street at 5:30pm, parading their handmade lanterns.  Tiverton Town Band will be marching with the children, playing Christmas carols along the route.

The parade finishes outside the Town Hall, where the local choir will get everyone singing some festive tunes (accompanied by the Town Band) while Santa arrives to turn on the Christmas lights!  The switch-on takes place at 6:00pm and there will be plenty of festive entertainment in the town centre (including Reindeer for the children to meet and pet).  Children’s Hospice South West then start their 2k charity run ‘Santas on the Run’ from Tiverton Market at 6:30pm.  Everyone taking part will be wearing Santa outfits.

From 5:30pm to 9:30pm, there will be live music at Tiverton Market, featuring local band Roadrunners with their Christmas single, alongside the multi award-winning streetfood event ‘Electric Nights Streetfood’ offering a range of hot foods, sweet treats and beverages including some Christmas favourites such as mulled wine.

Mid Devon District Council is organising the event in partnership with Tiverton Town Council and the Tiverton Cooperative Learning Partnership.  Anyone wishing to take part in the charity Santa Run can sign-up at

Town Centre businesses and the General Market will also be taking part in the event with late night shopping.  As this is the last year for Tiverton’s ‘green pants’ Christmas lights expect some fun window displays!  In addition to the streetfood event, there will also be a fun fair at Tiverton Market.
